Digital at Lloyds Banking Group

More than 11 million customers now use our digital banking services with over six million using their mobile to bank with Halifax, Lloyds Bank or Bank of Scotland. The convenience that digital brings means customers can check their account balance, transfer money and make payments all within a matter of seconds.

However, we know that whilst there are huge benefits to digital, there are also many barriers. As such, we have committed to use our scale and data for good; by combining rich transactional data with attitudinal insights from our clients and customers, we have created unique propositions that help to measure and address the digital skills gap in the UK. The Lloyds Bank UK Business Digital Index is the only annual measure of digital capability amongst SMEs and charities across the UK and is an invaluable resource for policy makers, partners and decision makers to support the improvement of digital skills and the digital economy. We also create and publish the Lloyds Bank UK Consumer Digital Index, the first and largest report of its kind in the UK to analyse and benchmark the relationship between consumers’ digital and financial capability.

Lloyds Banking Group is a partner of the digital skills charity Good Things Foundation, which works to improve the digital skills of individuals, small businesses and charities across the UK. Our Index insights show us that 11.5 million people, 1.6 million small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and 100,000 charities don’t have basic digital skills despite research showing that being online can reduce isolation and increase turnover and funding. This is why we have made a commitment for 25,000 colleagues to become Digital Champions, and for our programmes to enable face to face training for 2.5m people by 2020 as part of our Helping Britain Prosper Plan. We have also worked with industry partners such as BT, Google and Facebook, as well as charity and business leaders such as NCVO, the Lloyds Bank Foundation and FSB to create a toolkit of resources called the Digital Knowhow site. For us, insight underpins everything we do and keeping data, and people, at the heart of our decision-making enables us to make a national impact.
