Newcastle based coffee shop opens two new stores and creates 15 jobs

Mister Woods Coffee is already a well-known name locally, with two established coffee shops in Tynemouth and North Shields, and the two new sites have opened in Broadway and Wallsend.

Steven Smallwood started the business in 2007. He had worked in the catering industry as a chef and restaurant manager since leaving school, and decided to open his own coffee shop. He focuses on high quality, fair-trade coffees, drinks and foods, specifically sourced from individual suppliers around the world.

I’d always wanted to work for myself and to create a distinctive business of my own.

DRIVING GROWTH

He said, “We’ve gone to great lengths with Mister Woods Coffee to offer our customers the very best quality coffees and foods, such as ice creams and frozen yoghurts from a producer in the Isle of Arran, and hot apple drinks from Canada, and created a unique and relaxing atmosphere in which to enjoy them.”

Steven was keen to build upon his existing success and to open two new sites. In order to do this, he realised he would need additional financial support to help complete the project.

FINDING THE FUNDS

In order to secure and renovate the new sites, Steven approached Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking for the six-figure Government-backed Funding for Lending Scheme loan, having received similar support previously to establish the business. Under the Funding for Lending Scheme customers receive discounts of one per cent for the life of their loans.

With Steven’s wealth of experience in the sector it is easy to see why the business has become so popular, and it is great to be able to help him to continue to realise its potential.
