Kid Ease

Growing up

Leading Kent nursery chain open its fifth setting in Swingfield

Kid Ease Ltd was co-founded in 2001 by owner and managing director Ian Atkey, who spotted a gap in the market for a nursery that would help parents return to the workplace after having children.

Kid Ease has grown rapidly and currently employs over 100 staff and cares for over 800 children. The nurseries are all situated close to workplaces and local primary schools, helping support parents returning to work as well as children making the transition between nursery and formal education. Ian spotted an opportunity to open a fifth site.

Turning plans into reality

The space Ian located for the fifth branch was previously used as an office. The cost of purchasing it and refurbishing was substantial so he decided he needed support to help cover the investment.

Ian said “After a 10 year career in management consultancy, I noticed that many companies experienced problems with staff retention after employees left to start a family. This sparked the idea for a day care service close to workplace environments that would help parents return to work by providing conveniently located childcare.”

Doing it for the kids

When the office space became available, Ian saw its potential to be the next Kid Ease setting. To secure the funding needed to purchase and refurbish the property, Ian approached his banking partner of 12 years, Lloyds Bank, which provided the six-figure loan.

Since then, refurbishments have seen the installation of new lighting and flooring, heat-efficient ceilings, toilet facilities and sheltered outdoor classrooms. Ian will also be recruiting 18 members of full and part time staff to service the nursery that has capacity for 57 children.

We’ve enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the bank for over a decade now and they have supported us with a number of our expansions over the years.
