Nursery expansion

Leyland nursery secures funding for expansion and new jobs

Stonehouse Childcare was started in 1989 by Linda Williams a former school teacher and now Early Years Practitioner Stonehouse provides day care and pre-school education for children from birth to five years, and is open 51 weeks of the year.

Stonehouse is registered for 109 children and employs 33 members of staff, which Linda is looking to boost by taking on additional staff including two new apprentices.

The right start

Having been previously housed in two adjacent buildings, Stonehouse Childcare wanted to create a property which brought everyone back under one roof.

The nursery takes education and training very seriously, and for this reason wanted to provide a space where all staff could receive full training, up to NVQ or equivalent, to ensure they offer the very best early years education possible. The planned extension would allow them to provide a base to train their apprentices.

Stonehouse recognised they were going to need some financial support to get the extension project off the ground.

Funding the project

Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking supplied the funding to enable Stonehouse Childcare to erect the extension, which was purposely designed and built to incorporate bespoke facilities for under-two’s. It also houses additional office space and a new training room for staff to enable in-house courses and external qualifications to be delivered on-site.

Stonehouse also boasts 11 playrooms for the children, each focused on an aspect of learning from the Early Years Foundation Stage, including literacy, creative arts, construction and maths, in addition to several outdoor play areas.

It wouldn’t have been possible to complete the work as quickly and efficiently without the support of our relationship teams, who went out of their way to provide a support specific to our needs.

Financial support

Linda Williams said: “The new extension is a superb addition to our facilities, enhancing the service that we are able to offer to both our children and staff.  It also gives us additional scope for future projects, enables us to develop and deliver our curriculum and enhances children’s’ learning experiences through the activities we are now able to provide.

The new staff training space Linda has added really is a unique feature that sets Stonehouse Childcare apart.
