Save the Children - Our Charity Of The Year

Save the Children

Lloyds Banking Group Charity of the Year

Save the Children is Lloyds Banking Group’s chosen Charity of the Year until the end of December 2011. Working together with Save the Children we aim to raise at least £1,000,000 to fund a minimum of 52 Families and Schools Together (FAST) projects in some of the UK's most disadvantaged communities. FAST brings together children and their parents, schools and community volunteers in a supportive environment.  It helps coach parents on how to support their children’s development by engaging them in educational activities and building their confidence, helping parents take a more active role in their children’s schooling and their local communities.

About Save the Children

Save the Children operates in more than 120 countries around the world, including the UK. Despite the UK being the fifth richest country in the world, millions of children in the UK live in poverty. Save the Children focuses on ending child poverty by giving disadvantaged children a real chance at a better future.

Doing our bit to help

Lloyds Banking Group is determined to help Save the Children make a difference. The money raised by Lloyds Banking Group will fund Save the Children’s FAST projects across the UK.  This unique programme works with three- to five-year-olds and their families to ensure that disadvantaged children get the best possible start to their school life.

Every child deserves to start school with the same chance of success.  The love and support a child receives at home has the biggest impact on a child’s success. Families and Schools Together is founded on this principle, bringing children and their parents together with their schools and their local community to learn together, increasing their confidence and life chances, and ultimately helping them to break out of the cycle of poverty.

The programme has a proven track record of success, with 80% of participants voluntarily continuing to meet up to two years after the FAST project.  It is endorsed by the United Nations and the Children’s Workforce Development Council.

Throughout 2011 our people will be undertaking all sorts of activities to help reach our fundraising target of £1 million.
