Local start-up company receives funding from Bank of Scotland

Wednesday 2nd April 2008

Cornish Sea Salt Co. Ltd. – a newly established company based in Cornwall – has agreed a funding package with Bank of ScotlandCorporate.  The company, which has been established by Managing Director Tony Fraser after three years of extensive research, produces the only English sea salt harvested straight from the ocean.

Cornish Sea Salt will operate from a newly completed, purpose built harvesting unit in Porthkerris on the Lizard Peninsula, around 10 miles south of Falmouth.  The unit, which was built by local firm John Nicholls Builders Ltd, will extract sea water, pass it through a processing facility to produce the sea salt crystals, and then return the water to the sea through a separate pipeline 200 yards away.

In addition to the management team, Cornish Sea Salt employs 8 locally recruited staff.  The salt, which is packaged in an innovative, eco-friendly manner, has recently gone on sale for the first time and is available in independent stores throughout the UK.

Commenting, Managing Director Tony Fraser said:

"I'm delighted that after three years of hard work researching this business idea, we're off and running.  Our sea salt is of the highest quality, is environmentally friendly and is both healthier and tastier than traditional table salt.  I'm extremely grateful for the support Bank of Scotland Corporate has given us – they understood our requirements perfectly and helped make this project work."

Richard Oates, Director of Commercial Business for Bank of Scotland Corporate in the South West, added:

"Entrepreneurs like Tony Fraser are the lifeblood of local economies all over the country, and nowhere more so than here in the South West.  We have extremely high regard for Tony and his team and the innovative approach they have used to produce a top quality product.  We look forward to working with them to achieve their growth aspirations".
