The number of owner-occupied households in Scotland rose by 125,000 from 1.403 million in 2001 to 1.528 million in 2006, according to Bank of Scotland estimates* based on official statistics. The 8.9% rise over the five years was the largest percentage increase in owner occupation in the UK; nearly treble the UK increase of 3.1%. (Table 1)
