Scottish Widows enjoys a proud history. In March 1812, at the height of the Napoleonic Wars, a number of eminent Scotsmen gathered in the Royal Exchange Coffee Rooms in Edinburgh, to consider setting up 'a General Fund' for securing provision to widows, sisters and other females’. 

The Scottish Widows Fund and Life Assurance Society – Scotland’s first mutual life office – opened for business in 1815, expanding over the years to serve across the UK.

Scottish Widows today has over six million customers. The research team at IPSOS report Scottish Widows to be one of the UK’s most trusted Life, Pensions and Investments providers.

The brand today is best known for its iconic advertising with a series of famous commercials that are still remembered today.

The brand’s past advertising has featured three Widows: first Deborah Moore; Amanda Lamb; and most recently Hayley Hunt have all played the part as the iconic and enigmatic Widow.

In 2014 the advertising returns to screens, with a new Widow, Amber Martinez as part of Scottish Widow’s latest advertising programme, and the next chapter of the brand’s 200 year history.
