A home to call your own

A home to call your own

Making the jump onto the property ladder

Making that first jump onto the property ladder is a dream for many in the UK. A home to finally call your own, after years of saving, is an exciting prospect. It sparks the start of a new chapter that gives you the chance to create memories that will stay with you forever.

Buying a home for you and your family, from the first steps of searching for properties, right through to getting the keys in your hand for the first time, can be daunting and stressful.

Often we turn to family and friends to help us through the process, yet this is not always possible. Getting impartial guidance from industry experts can be just what's needed to avoid the common pitfalls of owning your own home.

We know that financial topics can be intimidating. As the bank that is committed to going further to better serve our customers, we want to make complex financial topics easy for consumers to understand.

Impartial guidance

To help first time buyers, Lloyds Bank held an open public event, providing professional and impartial insight into buying your first home.

The event comprised a panel of specialists including; George Clarke, best known for his TV series "Restoration Man", Miles Shipside, Commercial Director at Rightmove, Holly Thomas a personal finance journalist and Craig McKinlay, Mortgage Director, Lloyds Bank.

The audience posed questions on a wide range of topics, including  the best times to buy, the first steps of getting a mortgage, the extra costs and guidance on the Help to Buy scheme.
Attendees commented how useful the event was for first time buyers.

By tackling financial issues that we know are important for our customers, we can be there for the moments that matter to them.

Supporting UK households

Customers are at the heart of everything we do. By using our skills, resources and people effectively we believe we can help Britain prosper. Through some of the most well known brands on the High Street, including Lloyds Bank, Bank of Scotland, Halifax and Scottish Widows, the Group is committed to being there for customers.

Recent first time buyers who made that first leap on the property ladder with the help of Bank of Scotland, remarked;

"It's stressful being a first-time buyer, dealing with sellers/solicitors and estate agents. Angela, (Bank of Scotland Mortgage Advisor) kept in touch throughout the process and used her expert knowledge to help me deal with the legal process. She was a genuinely nice person to deal with".

Our Commitment

Supporting UK households is one of our commitments under our Helping Britain Prosper plan. The plan outlines seven key commitments we have made to the UK across a series of issues including home-buying.

In 2014, we helped over 89,000 people into their first home, lending a total of £11.9bn. It doesn’t stop there though, as Lloyds Banking Group has pledged to help more first-time buyers than any other Group again in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Our aim is to ensure that we help customers across the UK to feel secure about the future by offering the right products at the right time.

We are committed to the new build market, where we provide one in four mortgages, and which will play a key role in helping us achieve our commitment to lend £10bn to 80,000 first time buyers this year.
