Supporting social entrepreneurs

Supporting social entrepreneurs

Social enterprise exists to transform communities and help people in need. In the last year only 51 percent of social enterprises across the UK made a profit.

There is a real need to help these valuable endeavours which do so much for local communities. Match Trading™ is a new way of giving that support, developed with the School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE).

This pioneering approach works by rewarding sales growth with grant funding, so entrepreneurs develop their trading base and become more self-sustaining.

Piloting Match Trading™

A pilot scheme run through the Lloyds Bank Social Entrepreneurs programme, involved 19 participants. In one year, they achieved an average increase in income of 92 per cent.

SSE welcomes a further 80 student social entrepreneurs per year as the next wave of Match Trading pioneers on the Lloyds Bank Social Entrepreneurs Trade Up and Scale Up Programmes. Run in partnership with SSE and jointly funded by National Lottery Community Fund, over the next five years, the programme will support at least another 400 social entrepreneurs with Match Trading grants.

School for Social Entrepreneurs

We are a lead sponsor for the School for Social Entrepreneurs, which brings together people who want to change things for the better. The SSE supports social entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs and charity leaders. They run courses that equip them with the skills and networks needed to create lasting change.

This is the seventh year of our ten-year partnership with SSE. Over the first five years of the programme, we helped social entrepreneurs to start-up or grow their businesses, collectively benefitting over 300,000 people and creating almost 4000 full-time equivalent jobs.
