JOB TITLE: Senior Site Reliability Engineer

LOCATION(S): London

HOURS: Full time

WORKING PATTERN: At least two days per week (or 40% of your time) at our office location listed above.

About this opportunity
The Identity & Authentication Platform delivers capabilities to enable LBG business areas secure client and digital authentication and identity across all their digital channels. The Platform delivers core products including Identity & Authentication as a Service, giving end-to-end packaged services of several components for self-serve consumption to give strategic capabilities of centralised and reusable authentication services, a suite of authentication methods (either 1 or multi-factor depending on regulation obligations) and a scaled, centralised and hosting agnostic Authorisation as a Service capability consisting of a Token Exchange component and the provision of a signed token for Channels to use downstream, allowing management of their access.

As a Lead SRE, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of distributed systems. This includes driving cloud adoption, automating workflows, and embedding SRE principles into the software development lifecycle. You’ll lead incident management, implement monitoring and alerting solutions, and mentor your team on best practices. Additionally, you’ll focus on security, compliance, and continuous improvement to deliver resilient and high-performing systems.

  • The team focuses on Site Reliability, Platform, DevOps, and Systems engineering, to build and run large-scale, distributed, fault-tolerant systems on public cloud.

  • This is a hybrid role, first leading a team, mentoring, coaching, and developing peers across the teams in the lab, while the other major part of the role will be acting as a completely hands-on Lead DevOps/SRE to lead by example.

  • Our engineers are passionate about ensuring the services, both internal and external have unwavering reliability, uptime appropriate to users' needs, resiliency, architectural simplicity, as well as continually seeking to find improvements.  It is up to the leads build on that desire and passion.

  • Opportunities to work on complex challenges, while using expertise in coding, algorithms, complexity/forensic analysis, technical architecture, and various system design strategies to address those challenges.

What you’ll need:

  • A lead engineer within the field of SRE with exceptional understanding of SRE & DevOps and can explain in critical detail to your mentees

  • Production Kubernetes experience and debugging all services that run within the K8s ecosystem, including Istio service mesh

  • SRE mentality (SLI, SLO & SLA) using Observability, Logging, Monitoring & Alerting (Dynatrace)

  • Ideally coming from a software engineering or exceptional scripting skill background and have moved into SRE/DevOps while gaining a wider understanding of application ecosystems.

  • Experience programming in at least two (but not all) of the following languages: Java, Groovy, Scala, Python, Go, C++, JavaScript, .Net, PowerShell or Bash/Shell. 

  • Knowledge of GCP and Azure cloud platforms.

  • Very strong expertise in DevOps tools

  • Experience with Chaos Engineering, Day-2 Ops, Resiliency and Disaster Recovery Planning and execution

  • Technical architecture and Microservice design principles.
