    About this opportunity

Are you a tech leader who loves empowering teams and driving?  We’re looking for an Engineering Lead to drive the success of our teams, ensuring they have everything they need to thrive.

In this role, you’ll set the overall direction for our engineering teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and efficiency.  You’ll work closely with product owners to make sure technology is at the heart of decision-making, while also keeping a close eye on risk, resilience, and costs.  While you may not be coding day to day, your deep technical expertise will be crucial in guiding and mentoring the team.

If you’re ready to step into a leadership role that shapes both people and technology, we’d love to hear from you!

    About us

Like the modern Britain we serve, we’re evolving. Investing billions in our people, data and tech to transform the way we meet the ever-changing needs of our 26 million customers. We’re growing with purpose. Join us on our journey and you will too…

    Job Description

On a day to day basis you will:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful delivery of the product roadmap.
  • Take hands on ownership for unblocking technical challenges and proving out new patterns and technical solutions ready for full use within the team.
  • Act as a player-coach, build others by developing and mentoring engineers on how to achieve the team and personal goals
  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and high performance.
  • Ensure the team is equipped with the necessary tools and resources to succeed.
  • What you’ll need

  • Strong technical background in full stack Javascript development (ideally Node and React)
  • Proven experience defining technology vision and architecture working closely with lead architects to drive strategic development
  • A deep, inquisitive focus on technology, with a track record of identifying opportunities to optimise and enhance systems and processes
  • A strong understanding of the experience, with hands on experience in improving team productivity, morale and overall efficiency
  • A solid background in resilience and security by design, ensuring teams take full ownership of production issues and prioritise a customer first approach
  • A passion for developing talent, fostering a product-based mindset, attracting and retaining top engineering talent to build high-performing teams
  • And any experience of this would be really useful:

  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (Ideally Azure) and source control platforms (such as GHE).
  • Familiarity with DevOps tooling, including continuous integration pipelines and containerisation.
  • About working for us

Our focus is to ensure we're inclusive every day, building an organisation that reflects modern society and celebrates diversity in all its forms.

We want our people to feel that they belong and can be their best, regardless of background, identity or culture.

We were one of the first major organisations to set goals on diversity in senior roles, create a menopause health package, and a dedicated Working with Cancer initiative.

And it’s why we especially welcome applications from under-represented groups.

We’re disability confident. So, if you’d like reasonable adjustments to be made to our recruitment processes, just let us know.

We also offer a wide-ranging benefits package, which includes:

  • A generous pension contribution of up to 15%
  • An annual bonus award, subject to Group performance
  • Share schemes including free shares
  • Benefits you can adapt to your lifestyle, such as discounted shopping
  • 30 days’ holiday, with bank holidays on top
  • A range of wellbeing initiatives and generous parental leave policies
  • If you’re excited by the thought of becoming part of our team, get in touch. We’d love to hear from you!
