What’s next for the UK housing market in 2026? Outlook on interest and mortgage rates, first‑time buyers, rental reform and regional trends from Lloyds Banking Group.
Lloyds Bank’s latest Business Barometer found that overall business confidence rose significantly in July to equal the highest level in confidence shown by businesses for eight years. Business confidence increased by nine points to 50% this month, reversing the drop in June and equalling the eight-year high seen in May.
With affordability stretched for many aspiring homeowners, new research from Lloyds Bank shows that as many as half (51%) of young first-time buyers are willing to consider “non-traditional routes” to get onto the property ladder – like purchasing with a friend (24%) or sibling (22%).
The latest Lloyds Bank Business Barometer has found that overall business confidence fell by 9 points to 41% in June. Despite falling from last month’s highs, this latest confidence reading is consistent with levels seen during Q1 2024, before the sharp rise in May.
