JOB TITLE: Lead Software Engineer (ECP platform)
SALARY: £90,440 - £106,400 per annum
LOCATION: Edinburgh
HOURS: Full-time – 35 hours
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our Edinburgh (Sighthill) office.

An exciting opportunity for a Lead Software Engineer to join the Economic Crime Prevention platform team in Edinburgh.
As a Lead Engineer within the Economic Crime Platform, you’ll be responsible for leading the transformation of our Application Fraud capability. You will lead the enduring teams that will transform and evolve our product. You will have a strong technical background, ideally in building microservice or event-based systems. You’ll be able to use your own experience to coach your teams, ensuring they are adopting best practice and designing secure, resilient systems that are easy to maintain.

What you’ll do…
Develops and/or delivers budget plans for own area with guidance from senior colleagues.
Takes responsibility for implementing formal development frameworks for a substantial team, while informally coaching and mentoring others throughout the organisation and investing in own personal development.
Identifies shortcomings, then suggests and implements improvements to existing business practices, while developing and delivering projects or a workstream within the organisation's change management programme with guidance from senior colleagues.
Provides input into the development of IT Security policies, develops underlying procedures and monitors their implementation for area of responsibility within the organisation.
Manages the development and/or operation of knowledge management system with guidance from senior colleagues.
Develops and/or delivers a plan for a specific area of responsibility by managing others.
Sets longer term objectives and takes responsibility for implementing and coordinating performance management systems for a substantial department within the organisation.
Analyses and evaluates the feasibility/relevance of proposals for complex products/services, then develops and amends as necessary with guidance from senior colleagues and/or supervises activities performed by a product development/specialist team.
Identifies and evaluates complex expertise-led solutions against a range of criteria to find the ones that best meet business needs.
Develops tactical plans for optimisation of resources and assets being managed within a given area or department.
Develops and/or delivers elements of a strategic planning system with guidance from senior colleagues.
Meets changing requirements by developing new testing approaches and strategy for a defined range of products and/or operations.
What you’ll need…
Experience leading high-performing engineering teams, ideally in a high-scale, distributed environment.
Strong technical background in at least one software engineering discipline.
Experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines for scalable and automated deployments.
Understanding of modern microservice or event-based architectures.
Strong focus on observability and monitoring, ensuring system reliability and performance.
A pragmatic approach to balancing technical debt, product velocity, and operational reliability.
Passion for both people development and hands-on technical leadership.
Comfortable working in an environment where data-driven decision-making and experimentation drive improvements.
