Job description

JOB TITLE: AI Risk Oversight Assistant Manager

SALARY: £57,150 - £63,500

LOCATION(S): Halifax, Bristol, Edinburgh, Leeds

HOURS: Full-time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites

About this opportunity

An excellent opportunity for a highly motivated candidate to join the newly established AI Risk Oversight team within the Model Risk Office [MRO] at Lloyds Banking Group. This role offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic and constantly evolving AI team, providing considerable scope for personal and professional development.

MRO will act as the front door for the business to advance their AI ambitions, requiring excellent collaboration with our CCOR teams (e.g., Data Risks, Cyber and Security, Supplier Management, Conduct).

Our Purpose: Better Models, Better Decisions, Better Outcomes.

What you’ll be doing:

Play a key role in shaping the future of safe and responsible AI. You’ll dive into meaningful risk reviews, help design robust assurance controls, and bring teams together across the organisation to strengthen our AI governance framework.

  • Play a hands‑on role in reviewing and challenging AI use cases, supporting the identification of AI‑specific risks and control effectiveness throughout the AI lifecycle.

  • Support ongoing monitoring of AI use cases, helping surface governance gaps, emerging risks, and issues requiring escalation.

  • Assist in shaping clear and concise AI risk documentation, helping translate complex risks into meaningful insights for internal collaborators.

  • Stay close to AI regulation and policy developments, supporting impact assessments and helping the team respond to a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape.

  • Collaborate across Model Risk, Technology Risk, and Responsible AI teams to help ensure AI oversight is joined‑up, proportionate, and aligned to enterprise governance.

Why join us?

We’re on an exciting journey to transform our Group and the way we’re shaping finance for good. We’re focusing on the future, investing in our technologies, workplaces, and colleagues to make our Group a great place for everyone.

What we’re looking for:

  • Relevant experience in second line risk, AI governance, compliance, or technology risk, or data risk.

  • A foundational understanding of AI/ML and GenAI risks across different lifecycle stages (e.g. data use, model outputs, integration, monitoring).

  • Good communication skills with the ability to engage cross-functional teams and summarise technical risk findings clearly.

  • Exposure to risk or governance frameworks applied in AI or technology domains.

  • Familiarity with second-line risk functions or oversight roles supporting assurance, governance, or regulatory alignment.

And any of these would be great:

  • Familiarity with security risk concepts: data leakage, timely injection, adversarial threats.

  • Knowledge of global AI regulations and compliance trends (e.g. EU AI Act, GDPR).

  • Exposure to AI tooling or monitoring platforms (e.g. Vertex AI, LLMOps, model tracing tools).

  • Exposure to ethical AI topics such as fairness, accountability, and IP risk.

We know that great talent comes from many backgrounds. Whilst this job advert may reference specific years of experience, we recognise that skills are developed in many ways, so if you have relevant, transferable experience, we encourage you to apply.

This is a place for you

We want to ensure all our candidates have the opportunity to shine. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make the sure the assessment process works for you.

We also offer a wide-ranging benefits package, which includes:

• An annual performance-related bonus

• Share schemes including free shares

• Benefits you can adapt to your lifestyle, such as discounted shopping

• 28 days’ holiday, with bank holidays on top
