Why This Role Matters

Data & AI are transforming financial services - but only when deployed safely and responsibly.

We are on a significant transformation journey - moving away from manual, retrospective assurance towards preventative, engineered risk management. Controls are increasingly designed directly into platforms, pipelines and products, supported by always on telemetry, advanced analytics and AIon telemetry, advanced analytics and AIenabled detection.

We are seeking an outstanding leader to transform how risk, assurance, and controls are delivered in a data driven, AI enabled organisation within the Chief Controls Office.

LBG is setting AI standards for the industry. This role is crucial to help drive the right balance between innovation and safe adoption, with risk management as an enabler rather than a blocker

As a senior leader working in the Chief Controls Office, you will bring technical credibility and strategic influence, guiding the organisation to adopt safe, scalable, and well governed Data & AI capabilities that enhance resilience and protect our customers, colleagues, and enterprise.

Drive organisational readiness and governance across Data & AI by anticipating and managing risks, embedding control‑by‑design practices, and ensuring transparent, ethical, and compliant AI adoption. Lead strong data management practices aligned to internal standards and support delivery of the enterprise Data Strategy.

You will play a defining role in ensuring our organisation adopts Data & AI with confidence and integrity. If you’re driven by the opportunity to build world-class Data & AI risk practices and help set the benchmark for safe, responsible innovation, we would love to hear from you.

What you’ll be doing

  • Define and lead the controls strategy for Data & AI risk, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations, internal policies, and emerging industry standards as well as move towards a continuous monitoring paradigm.

  • Help embed control by design across Data & AI products, pipelines, models, and platforms - ensuring risk mitigation and assurance requirements are built in from the outset.

  • Oversee end-to-end Data & AI assurance, including model risk management, data quality controls, lineage transparency, monitoring frameworks, and ethical AI practices.

  • Establish and mature AI governance, ensuring safe deployment, explainability, fairness, and auditability of AI models and intelligent systems.

  • Lead a high performing assurance, controls, and technical risk team, fostering a culture of accountability, curiosity, and continuous improvement

  • Partner closely with Engineering, Business, Risk and Audit teams to ensure risks are clearly understood, proactively managed, and fully reflected in the wider control framework.

  • Provide expert challenge to senior technology and business leaders, ensuring Data & AI initiatives meet the highest risk and assurance standards.

  • Stay ahead of market, regulatory, and technology developments, ensuring our organisation remains compliant, competitive, and safe as Data & AI innovation accelerates.

What We’re Looking For

  • Deep technical expertise in Data Management, AI/ML, data engineering, or model development, combined with a strong understanding of risk, assurance, and governance requirements.

  • Demonstrated experience building risk management disciplines in Data & AI functions within complex or regulated environments.

  • Strong understanding of model risk management, data governance, AI assurance, and responsible AI principles.

  • A transformational leader with a track record of evolving operating models, uplifting capability, and driving cultural change across high stakes environments.

  • Ability to interpret and influence regulatory guidance, translating requirements into practical, scalable controls.

  • Strategic thinker with hands on credibility, able to lead conversations with technical teams, senior executives, regulators, and audit partners.
