Job description

JOB TITLE: Assistant Manager - Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs)

SALARY: £44,901 to £49,890

LOCATIONS: Edinburgh

HOURS: Full-Time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites. Colleagues with disabilities can be supported with workplace adjustments including hybrid working expectations in line with our Flexibility Works policy.

What you’ll be doing

We’re a small, specialist team within the Commercial Banking 1st Line Economic Crime Prevention (ECP) function, with responsibility for managing Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs) risk across Business & Commercial Banking (BCB) and Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB).

The team is responsible for conducting risk assessments on new and existing PEP relationships, ensuring risks are appropriately identified, assessed, mitigated and escalated in line with policy and regulatory expectations. We’re highly collaborative, encourage continuous improvement, and aim to be best in class amongst our peer banks.

You'll conduct risk assessments on customers believed to have a connection to sanctioned countries/entities and make recommendations to senior management for approval. As a subject matter expert, you'll keep abreast of industry developments and regulation, sharing information across appropriate teams within the division.

Why join us

If you think all banks are the same, you’re wrong. We’re a pioneering, fast-changing business that’s shaping finance as a force for good. If you’re after a role where you can have an impact and do the best work of your career, you’ve just found it.

What we’re looking for

You’ll bring a strong interest in economic crime risk and a desire to develop your expertise in PEPs, along with:

  • At least 3 years’ experience working in an Economic Crime Prevention, Financial Crime or Compliance role.

  • Experience coordinating and prioritising workloads to meet deadlines and service expectations.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with Coverage and Economic Crime Prevention colleagues.

And Any Experience of These Would Be Really Useful

  • Coaching skills and track record of personal development.

  • Experience of reviews involving Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs)

  • Experience in the design and implementation of a compliance programme while ensuring adherence to regulatory and compliance standards.

  • Ability to identify shortcomings, then suggest and implement improvements to existing business practices.

This is a place for you

Our ambition is to be the leading UK business for diversity, equity and inclusion supporting our customers, colleagues and communities and we’re committed to creating an environment in which everyone can thrive, learn and develop.

We offer reasonable workplace adjustments for colleagues with disabilities, including flexibility in office attendance, location and working patterns. As a Disability Confident Leader, we guarantee interviews for a fair and proportionate number of applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the role with a disability, long-term health or neurodivergent condition through the Disability Confident Scheme.

We provide reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process to reduce or remove barriers. Just let us know what you need.

We also offer a wide-ranging benefits package, which includes:

  • A generous pension contribution of up to 15%

  • An annual performance-related bonus

  • Share schemes including free shares

  • Benefits you can adapt to your lifestyle, such as discounted shopping
