With us, there'll always be exciting opportunities to grow in your career. Read on to find out more about our approach to your learning and development.

Our approach is different

We don’t just look at where you are right now, we look at your potential. Our ‘TAP’ – Thinking-Ambition-People model helps you to identify what makes you stand out and where those qualities can take you!

Everyone is different right? That’s why we have four Talent Capabilities which each give a different perspective and together provide a rounded view of your strengths and areas for development.

These capabilities together will equip you with everything you need to achieve your career ambitions, whether that’s growing in a role, making a move, or going for a complete career change!

Learning is in our DNA

From the moment you join us through your onboarding journey, to every step you take in your career with us, you’ll be learning, developing and growing.

You’ll be empowered to tailor your own learning and development to meet your needs – whether that be on-the-job, formally or informally, through others such as mentoring or coaching, or more intentionally through learning courses or gigs. Learning is embedded in your day-to-day here.

Everyone should benefit from learning new skills, so we also offer schemes for your friends and family too!

Moving you forward

When you grow, everyone benefits. That’s why we invest in your skills and experiences. Everything we need to go Faster Forward.

We have talent programmes specifically designed to develop the future skills and experiences needed to stay ahead of our competition as we transform.

Demanding and intensive, these expertly curated development experiences (known as Talent Squared programmes) accelerate your progression into spaces including data and tech, profit and loss leaders and leadership talent.

FAQs about learning and development at Lloyds Banking Group

  • Yes, we’d like to think so! Learning is embedded from day one at Lloyds Banking Group and our skills-first career development model will help you grow in your role. Our frameworks and programmes are in place to ensure you can progress in your existing role, make a move into a new role (whether that be with us or externally), or even completely change your career direction!

We also know life happens and so not only is our award-winning flexible working policy there to support you in these moments that matter, but we have targeted support whether you’re re-integrating back to us after some time out (think after parental leave or long-term sickness) or transitioning out, for instance retiring!

  • Our people are expected to continually focus (and refocus) their development activity to grow the skills, experience and behaviours needed for them to succeed now, but also thrive into the future. This means being ready to grow, adapt and evolve to respond to changes in what’s expected of us.

We give opportunities for learning and growth to help you future-proof your skills by taking a skills-first approach to learning, development, and career mobility. We provide colleagues with a whole range of opportunities and through our belief that learning is lifelong and always-on, we expect them to grab whatever is right for them now, next and later.

We are building a workforce ready for rapid changes in technology, customer needs and the wider world of work through several key strategies:

    1. A skills-based organisation model

We use a shared skills framework that defines clear skills, proficiency levels and expectations for every role. This makes it easier for colleagues to understand where they are today and what skills they need for the future, supporting transparency and long-term development planning.

    2. Dedicated skills pathways & learning academies

We offer structured learning pathways, skills academies and curated content that build future ready capabilities in areas like data, digital, technology, cyber, engineering and leadership. These pathways help colleagues learn the right skills at the right time, aligned to both personal career goals and business needs.

    3. Continuous learning built into everyday work

Learning is embedded into day-to-day work and is supported through on-the-job development, coaching, mentoring, gigs, curated courses and self paced modules. So here, colleagues can build new skills continuously rather than relying on one-off training.

    4. Large-scale future skills initiatives

We hold Group-wide and division wide learning days such as Reboot and Hackathons so that thousands of colleagues can learn together, building shared understanding and accelerating adoption of future focused skills. Continuous learning, experimentation and collaboration are key to us at Lloyds Banking Group.

    5. Reskilling programmes for new career paths

Through Reskilling Pathways and Skills Boost programmes, colleagues can transition into emerging growth areas such as cyber security, engineering, data management and economic crime prevention. These programmes offer funded qualifications, structured learning and business led internal mobility routes.

    6. Strong leadership commitment to skills & AI readiness

Senior leaders participate in advanced upskilling (e.g., Cambridge AI programmes) and champion responsible AI, digital fluency and future skills adoption across their teams. The Group’s AI Academy initiative ensures every single colleague has foundational AI skills and access to AI tools to help them do their jobs more efficiently.

    7. Data-driven workforce planning

We are continuously using insight to understand emerging skill needs which helps us plan for future demand and align learning investment with strategic transformation priorities. Here, you will develop the capabilities needed now, and tomorrow.

  • We strongly encourage internal career moves, giving colleagues the freedom to explore new teams, roles and business areas. Once you have been in your role for a year here, you can explore other roles internally. Not only does this give you the opportunity to explore something new, it also means teams get the opportunity to access new perspectives and skills.

  • We offer extensive learning options that ensure colleagues build future ready capabilities aligned to changing business and customer needs including:
