JOB TITLE: Senior DevOps Engineer
SALARY: £70,929 - £78,810 per annum
LOCATION: Bristol 
HOURS: Full-time 
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.

Join our Payments Lab team as a Senior DevOps Engineer and help shape the future of retail banking as we undergo the largest transformation in the UK banking industry.

The Payments Lab team is at the heart of retail banking innovation, delivering new initiatives such as Request a Payment and enabling cash deposits at your local pay point store. As part of the Consumer Servicing & Engagement (CS&E) Platform, we are modernising our tech stack and building new capabilities using the latest technologies across Cloud and Mobile. 


The Consumer Servicing & Engagement (CS&E) Platform delivers a unified digital servicing proposition for personal customers on the device of their choosing, giving the best digital customer experience to increase engagement and options for self-service.


We build deeper and more trusted relationships with our customers and support them to improve their financial lives by offering valuable, engaging and human-like digital banking experiences. We grow customer satisfaction and trust through simple, helpful and personalised experiences that they love.


We provide and guide our 25M+ customers to complete and easy-to-use self-serve offerings where they can do (almost) everything they want within digital. We deepen valued customer relationships, helping them build financial resilience, by understanding what they need and when.

Day to day, you will  
•    Accountable for DevOps implementations at a Feature team/Lab level, ensuring all services/implementations are stable, scalable and performant.
•    Ensuring service levels are appropriate for all DevOps services consumed by the Feature/Lab team.
•    Spearhead and support the migrating all Group applications from Google 1.0 to Google 2.0.
•    Utilising endorsed technologies and applying common build patterns to minimise technical debt.
•    Application creation and application maintenance.
•    Adhering to Group policies and frameworks for build and release.
•    Drive relentless automation of repetitive and tedious tasks (TOIL).
•    Actively contribute to Platform and Lab level roadmaps around DevOps pipelines, tooling and technology.
•    Support building a strong team by mentoring early career engineers to advance their technical skills, and by undertaking technical interviews to enable us to hire new engineers.
•    Liaise with Central DevOps function and build your network across the DevOps community within the Group.

What you’ll need:  
•    Demonstrable experience of managing applications running in a Cloud environment providing operational support, troubleshooting, tuning, upgrade & optimisation.
•    High proficiency in managing and deploying applications on public cloud (GCP essential).
•    Strong knowledge of Groovy programming language.
•    Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform.
•    Understanding of service mesh concepts and implementations (Istio).
•    Demonstrable knowledge of system administration (Ansible). 
•    Experience with configuration and deployment management tools is an advantage, (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
•    Strong knowledge of container orchestration using Kubernetes and Docker.
•    Experience using Dynatrace for dashboarding, monitoring and alerting.
•    Understanding of network segmentation and subnetting.
•    Experience with Helm for managing Kubernetes applications.
•    High proficiency with multiple CI/CD tools (Jenkins / Spinnaker / Harness).
•    Knowledge of configuring and managing firewalls for security.
•    Strong understanding of information / network security principles and practices.
•    Experience with managing secrets and certificates, such as using HashiCorp Vault.
•    Demonstrable capability of bootstrapping projects, and ability to effectively work with multi-disciplinary, internal and external distributed teams across the project lifecycle.
•    Familiarity with agile development practices, continuous integration and test automation (TDD, BDD, Selenium).

And any experience of these would be really useful: 
•    Experience with private and hybrid cloud environments.
•    Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation tasks.
•    Proficiency in Java, Golang or JavaScript.
