JOB TITLE

Senior Technical Application Specialist – Agentic AI

SALARY: £70,929 - £78,810

LOCATION: Manchester

HOURS: Full‑time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites. Colleagues with disabilities can be supported with workplace adjustments, including hybrid working expectations, in line with our Flexibility Works policy.

What you’ll be doing

As a Senior Technical Application Specialist focusing on Agentic AI, you’ll play a key role in shaping how advanced AI capabilities are designed, built and adopted across the Group. You’ll work at the intersection of engineering, architecture and product to turn emerging AI patterns into secure, scalable and reliable solutions that deliver real value.

Day to day, you’ll:

  • Design, build and support agentic AI applications that orchestrate workflows, decision‑making and automation across complex systems
  • Act as a technical authority for AI‑enabled applications, advising teams on architecture, integration and best practice
  • Partner with engineers, data scientists, architects and product teams to translate business problems into practical AI solutions
  • Ensure AI applications are built with security, resilience, ethics and responsible AI principles at their core
  • Support the full application lifecycle, from proof of concept through to production deployment and ongoing optimisation
  • Share knowledge and coach others, helping to grow AI capability and confidence across the wider engineering community

Why join us?

We’re transforming at pace. Investing billions in our people, data and tech to change the way we meet the needs of our 28 million customers. We’re growing, and we’d love you to be part of the journey.

You’ll be joining a forward‑looking technology community where you can experiment, learn and make a tangible impact, while working on some of the most interesting AI challenges in UK financial services.

What we’re looking for

Essential skills

  • Strong experience designing and supporting complex, production‑grade applications in modern technology environments
  • Hands‑on experience with AI‑enabled or intelligent systems, such as agent‑based workflows, orchestration layers or advanced automation
  • Solid understanding of application architecture, integration patterns and APIs
  • Experience working with cloud platforms and modern engineering practices (CI/CD, observability, reliability)
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences

And any experience of these would be great

  • Experience working with large language models (LLMs), AI platforms or orchestration frameworks
  • Knowledge of responsible AI, model governance or risk controls
  • Background in regulated or large‑scale enterprise environments
  • Experience mentoring or leading others on technical approaches

We know that great talent comes from many backgrounds. Whilst this job advert may reference specific skills or experience, we recognise that expertise is developed in many ways. If you have relevant, transferable experience and a passion for AI‑driven innovation, we’d love to hear from you.
