JOB TITLE: Senior Software Engineer (Fullstack)
SALARY: £72,702 - £80,780 per annum
LOCATION: Manchester
HOURS: Full-time - 35 hours per week
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.
ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with a track record of delivering high-quality work. As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll play a meaningful role in building the bank of the future.
Design, develop, test, and deploy high‑quality software solutions that meet business needs
Work closely with colleagues across disciplines to capture requirements, analyse technical feasibility, and translate them into engineering solutions
Lead the development and implementation of complex frontend and backend applications
Maintain high standards of code quality, architecture, and documentation
Participate in code reviews and provide constructive, actionable feedback to peers
Take ownership of debugging, root‑cause analysis, and resolution of production incidents
Mentor and coach junior engineers, fostering a culture of engineering excellence, learning, and continuous improvement
Extensive experience as a Senior Software Engineer or in a similar role
Deep understanding of modern software engineering principles with experience building highly observable, scalable, and distributed systems
Advanced proficiency in React, including:
State management using Context API and Redux
Microfrontend architectures
Component design patterns and performance optimisation
Testing with Jest and React Testing Library
Strong backend development experience with Node.js/Express, including:
Microservices architecture
Event‑driven systems
Pub/Sub or Kafka
API design and integration patterns
Solid system design knowledge, including:
Caching strategies (e.g., Redis)
Scalability, reliability, and performance considerations
Hands‑on experience with cloud‑native architecture and containerisation (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker)
Strong understanding of Agile principles and practices (Scrum, Jira)
Thorough knowledge of software testing methodologies and best practices
Excellent problem‑solving and analytical thinking skills
Strong collaboration, communication, and relationship‑building abilities
Awareness of emerging trends and technologies such as Generative AI, Large Language Models, and Agentic Architecture / AI Agents
Understanding of networking fundamentals across cloud and on‑premise environment
