Community concerns

Our community concerns channel is a dedicated way for communities, or their authorised representatives, to share concerns about human rights or environmental impacts that may be linked to our direct lending to UK corporate clients.

At Lloyds Banking Group, we're committed to doing business responsibly, guided by international standards like the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the OECD Guidelines for Responsible Business Conduct.

To support this commitment, we have created the community concerns channel. This is a dedicated way for communities, or their authorised representatives, to share concerns about human rights or environmental impacts that may be linked to our direct lending to UK corporate clients.

Who can use the channel?

Communities directly impacted by corporate activities that we currently lend to directly in the UK, or their authorised representatives, including civil society organisations, legal representatives of communities and trade unions acting on behalf of affected individuals.

What type of concerns can be raised?

Concerns must relate to an alleged human rights or environmental impact arising within an ongoing direct lending relationship between the Group and one of its corporate clients in the UK.

There must be a plausible link showing that the Group caused, contributed to, or is directly connected to an alleged impact. This process applies to concerns linked to direct lending with corporate and institutional banking client entities that have a current direct lending relationship with the Group in the UK, including direct loans from Scottish Widows. Client(s) refers to businesses and excludes individuals.

You can raise concerns about:

  • Human rights impacts (for example, labour rights, land rights, indigenous rights).
  • Environmental impacts (for example, biodiversity loss, pollution).

Due to UK GDPR requirements, please do not include sensitive personal data, such as health information, racial or ethnic origin, political opinions or religious beliefs. If this data is provided, it will not be processed and will be deleted.

If you are a customer and have a complaint about a product or service provided by the Group, please visit our products and services channel.

Eligibility criteria

The Group will evaluate submitted concerns based on the following eligibility criteria.

The concern must:

  • be submitted by the person(s) whose human rights have been adversely impacted (‘affected people’) or their nominated representative
  • concern actual or potential adverse human rights impact(s) including those recognised under the Human Rights Act 1998 and other internationally recognised human rights standards relevant in the UK context
  • be directly connected to Lloyds Banking Group through the bank’s business relationship with a current corporate client in the UK, and there be a plausible link showing that Lloyds Banking Group caused, contributed to, or is directly connected to the alleged impact
  • concern an alleged adverse human rights impact that occurred during the time when Lloyds Banking Group was lending to the corporate client
  • be connected to a Lloyds Banking Group corporate lending client that is registered in the UK
  • not be vexatious and must not interfere with pending or announced legal proceedings.

Certain cases are ineligible for consideration.
