Too many families are without a permanent home. We can and must change that.

Social housing is more than just a safety net, it’s the foundation for thriving lives and stronger communities across the UK. When people have a secure, affordable place to call home, they can build brighter futures for themselves and their families.

How is Lloyds Banking Group supporting the social housing sector?

At Lloyds Banking Group, we’re proud to stand alongside the social housing sector. Since 2018, we’ve provided over £20 billion in finance which includes commercial lending and deal facilitation, helping to create new homes and support the organisations that make a real difference every day.

We work with more than 300 housing associations, from Hyde Group in the South East to Pobl Group in Wales, supporting local providers who know their communities best.

Our support goes beyond finance: we offer tailored advice, flexible lending, and access to long-term investment through Scottish Widows, helping unlock new opportunities for the sector.

Because when we invest in social housing, we invest in people, in places, and in the future of the UK. Building homes. Building futures. Building hope.

Tackling the housing crisis

Building safe, sustainable homes is at the heart of what we do. But with thousands of families still waiting for a place to call home, the UK faces a critical shortage of social housing.

That’s why we’re working side by side with housebuilders and registered providers to accelerate the delivery of high-quality, affordable homes across the country. Every new home means more than just a roof – it’s a chance for people to thrive, for communities to grow stronger, and for local economies to flourish.

Building futures – the time is now (2025)

The UK needs a step change in the delivery of social and affordable housing. In this second edition, we set out a practical, evidence-based case for progress – a focused agenda to accelerate delivery.

The paper outlines three interconnected calls to action: lead with scalable public-private partnerships, co-ordinate a response to temporary accommodation pressures, and target policy reform to unlock investment. The tools exist. The partnerships are forming. What is needed is delivery – ambitious, co-ordinated, and at scale.
