Location: Bristol
Salary: £90,440 - £106,400
Hours:  Full time
Working Pattern: Hybrid, 40% (or two days) in our Bristol office.

About this opportunity 

As Tech Lead, you’ll bring your deep technical expertise to the table, driving technical development and delivery in key areas.  You’ll focus on solving complex challenges with your specialised knowledge taking ownership of critical tech delivery within your team.   

In this role, you’ll lead way in shaping the direction of our software solutions, using your expertise to make impactful decisions and drive success.  You’ll collaborate closely with the team and product owner to ensure delivery excellence. 

You’ll work within our  Commercial Banking division, within the Client Servicing & Engagement (CSE) platform. What you’ll do

You'll be passionate about designing and delivering scalable applications and have tangible views on how to best exploit public cloud capabilities. This role will be pivotal in transforming legacy systems into cloud native distributed applications.

  • Writing modular, well tested web applications that remain easy to maintain as the codebase and business continues to scale.

  • Ensuring software is built in a way which is consistent with - and exploits where possible - the collective frameworks, patterns and practices that exist across the wider Engineering community.

  • Understand and apply industry best practices, foster knowledge sharing to provide solutions for complex business problems where no precedent may exist and ensure implementation of solutions where appropriate.

  • Relentless focus on delivering business value through sound engineering methods and principles.

  • You’ll be solving technical problems, working alongside solution architects to define the architectural designs.

  • Diving deep on current monolith applications with a view on progressive modernisation and will guide engineers to make informed design choices to address architectural level concerns like scalability, security, reliability, and performance as we continue our transition to a cloud native based set of applications.

What you’ll need

  • Strong experience of Java and experience of microservice frameworks such as Springboot.

  • Strong experience of RESTful APIs and web services.

  • Strong understanding of source code repositories and change management tools, Git.

  • Experience of working with Docker or other containerisation technologies.

  • Experience of successfully implementing and using CI/CD pipelines.

  • Experience in creating high performing teams and mobilising them to deliver solutions in demanding timescales. 

It would be great if you also had

  • Experience with build processes and release automation (Azure/GCP Pipelines, Nexus).
