SALARY:  £43,803 - £48,670

LOCATION(S):  Leeds / Halifax

HOURS: Full-time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites

About this opportunity

This is your chance to bring your experience to a team of people who genuinely care about making home insurance better. We believe in doing things differently, putting customers first, and backing it all up with solid technical know-how.

Now, we’re on the lookout for a Senior Home Insurance Technical Underwriter to help us take things to the next level.

As Senior Technical Underwriter you’ll be our go-to expert for technical underwriting in home insurance. That means setting the standards, supporting the team with complex cases, and helping us build propositions that make sense for our customers and the business.

You’ll work closely with claims, product, pricing and feature teams — and have a real say in how we do things. It’s a role with plenty of responsibility but also loads of opportunity to make a difference.

What will I be doing?

  • Leading our claims oversight approach. Deep diving into the claims journey to identify indemnity and journey improvements, whilst also confirming the correct application of policy wording

  • Supporting Feature Teams to deliver change to our products or customer journeys

  • Setting, refining and implementing our underwriting approach for home insurance

  • Handling complex or unusual cases and offering expert advice to resolve customer problems. Also supporting and mentoring other team members with their cases

  • Ensuring policy wording, customer journeys and other documents are easy to understand and accurately reflects our proposition

  • Use data and MI to analyse emerging themes and find opportunities for improvement. Gaining consensus from senior partners on your recommendations

Why Lloyds Banking Group

Join us and, as well as making a difference to customers, you’ll enjoy a fulfilling career where you’re free to be yourself. Great colleagues, transforming workspaces, hybrid working and a wide variety of career opportunities – you’ll find them all here.

What you’ll need

We’ll be looking for someone with solid experience in home insurance, ideally in a senior or technical role. If you have strong technical underwriting background with a different general insurance product or expertise in household claims, we’d also like to hear from you.

  • Strong leadership skills whether it’s mentoring others in the team, leading technical discussions, or inspiring change, you’re someone others look to for guidance

  • Confident decision-maker you’re comfortable making calls on complex or unusual cases and can clearly explain your reasoning

  • Collaborative approach you enjoy working with different teams and know how to bring people together to get things done

  • Commercial awareness you understand how underwriting decisions impact the bigger picture and can balance risk with opportunity

  • Excellent communication skills whether it’s writing clear guidelines or presenting to customers, you know how to get your point across

  • Curious and proactive you’re always looking for ways to improve processes, products, and customer outcomes

  • DiP CII qualification (or working towards it) would be a big plus for us. But if you’ve got the experience and attitude, we’ll support your learning journey to get qualification you need for the role.
