JOB TITLE: Lead Detection & Response Engineer
LOCATION(S): Leeds, Manchester, Bristol, London or Edinburgh
HOURS: Full time (This role will include a requirement to work as part of an on-call rota)
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our locations noted above.

Our Cyber & Physical Defence Centre is undertaking an end-to-end modernisation to increase our ability to stay one step ahead of cyber adversaries. We pride ourselves on our innovative approach and our commitment to excellence in cyber security.
Join us as a skilled and proactive Lead Detection & Response Engineer in our Cyber Defence Centre. This role involves leading our Detection & Response Engineering team, managing team performance and development, and driving strategic projects that enhance our cyber defence capabilities!
What you’ll do
Play a leading role in managing our Detection and Response Engineers, supervising individual performance and define tailored objectives and goals.
Lead and mentor team members from Junior to Senior Engineer levels, driving the professional development of the team.
Participate in recruitment and onboarding activities, and strive to maintain our organisational culture
Communicate leadership directives and internal updates
Work with Senior Detection & Response Engineers to support effective escalation and incident response
Review and approve relevant process artefacts and operational documentation that underpin Detection and Response Engineering activities
Design, code and operationalise detection rules based on threat models and intelligence
Be the escalation point for Detection and Response decision making.

What you’ll need
Proven experience in a cyber defence context with demonstrable success in leading technical teams
Knowledge of threat detection lifecycle, attacker behaviour and Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs)
An understanding of advanced cyber defence concepts such as Continuous Detection/Continuous Response and Cyber Threat Intelligence, and how to apply them
Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities with the ability to foster a high-performance, inclusive team culture
Effective workforce and performance management with proficiency in project planning and execution.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Familiarity with governance, compliance, and operational excellence in security functions.
Knowledge of threat detection lifecycle, attacker behaviour and Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs)
Understanding of detection logic (e.g. SIEM use cases) and detection-as-code (DaC)
