Job title: Senior Commercial Strategy Manager

Location: Edinburgh

Salary: Pay group 3F

Hours: Full time

Working Pattern: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.

About this opportunity:

We're excited to offer an opportunity for a Senior Commercial Strategy Manager to join our Insurance office within Insurance, Pensions, and Investment (IP&I). You'll be at the heart of the Protection business, crafting strategy and driving commercial performance across channels, products and customer segments. Reporting to the Head of Commercial Strategy, this role involves critical thinking, commercial rigour, cross-functional leadership and team management.

You’ll collaborate with key partner teams – including Finance, Marketing, Change, Pricing, and Propositions – to ensure delivery of growth plans and commercial targets. You’ll also play a key role in identifying and challenging areas of inefficiency, cost leakage or process complexity – helping to optimise the Protection P&L and improve business performance.

You’ll also deputise for the Head of Commercial Strategy at senior meetings and forums, gaining valuable exposure and shaping key decisions at the highest level.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead and evolve the commercial strategy for Protection, aligned to LBG’s ambition to become a Top 3 life insurer in the UK.

  • Partner with Finance, Marketing, Change, Pricing, and Propositions teams to develop and deliver on growth and profitability targets.

  • Use data and insight to monitor performance, uncover trends, and identify new opportunities.

  • Take a lead role in reviewing costs, business processes, and prioritisation to ensure Protection operates efficiently and profitably.

  • Build, mentor, and lead a small team of performance professionals – ensuring high-quality outputs and individual development.

  • Constructively challenge partner teams where delivery is at risk or outcomes fall short of expectations.

  • Shape and present compelling strategic narratives, board-level materials, and cases that influence senior team members.

  • Deputise for the Head of Commercial Strategy at leadership meetings and strategic forums.

  • Review market and regulatory trends, helping shape long-term strategic direction and ensure competitive advantage.

  • Monitor, report, and communicate important data, encouraging a business-focused and hard-working environment.

What you’ll need:

  • Strong experience in commercial strategy, business planning, or transformation, ideally within financial services or insurance.

  • Proven track record to lead and develop high-performing teams.

  • Strong numerical, analytical, and financial competence – able to build and challenge cases, cost lines and efficiency assumptions.

  • Ability to review and optimise costs and processes to improve P&L performance.

  • Confident communicator and storyteller with experience making pitches to executive-level team members.

  • Highly proactive and resourceful, with a can-do attitude and the resilience to navigate ambiguity and change.

  • Comfortable with challenging conversations, holding others to account while maintaining a collaborative and respectful working environment.

  • Skilled at working across matrixed environments and handling complex team member relationships.

It would also be useful if you had:

  • A strong understanding of Protection and/or life insurance markets
