Support for Grampian Furnishers

Helping a family business to grow

In 1975, Grampian Furnishers Limited was established in Elgin, North Scotland by Royce Clark’s father and a couple of his friends. Royce took over the company 20 years ago and, as their loyal customer base and demand for their products increased, Royce felt it was time to expand. They had outgrown their existing premises, and due to the lack of suitable buildings in the area Royce felt the only viable option was to build their own showroom.

Thanks to a £2m funding package from Lloyds Banking Group, we’ve been able to secure the site in Elgin which has great visibility and a high volume of passing traffic, hopefully leading to attracting more customers to our huge new store and coffee house

Building a dream store

Unfortunately, objections to the building came from the local council which meant they needed to go to a planning committee vote. Publicity surrounding the objections stirred up a lot of emotion within the local community, and an online petition was formed which generated thousands of signatures supporting the build of the premises.

Royce made an emotional plea at the follow-up planning committee alongside the petition resulting in winning the vote and the build of the new store being agreed.

Helping Britain Prosper

“Supporting businesses across all sectors in Scotland is at the core of what we do and we’re proud to be supporting Royce and his team with their exciting growth plans.  As part of our commitment to helping Scotland prosper, job creation across Morayshire is always a positive. It’s fantastic to know our support of the new store will benefit local employment.”

Michael Thomson, Relationship Director, Lloyds Banking Group.
