JOB TITLE: Software Engineer

SALARY: £47,790-£56,000

LOCATION: Leeds

HOURS: 35 hours, full time

WORKING PATTERN: Hybrid, 40% (or two days) in an office site

About this opportunity

  • As a Software Engineer you’ll work in a feature team within the Prudential & Analytics Platform to deliver the highest quality software whilst continually challenging, mentoring and supporting other Engineers within the team.

  • You’ll be contributing to the analysis, design and development of software solutions delivering new features to an in-house full-stack application consisting of front-end UI, microservices and big data execution and help drive the migration to cloud.

  • The pace and scale of change taking place requires a passion for new thinking, new ideas and continuous improvement, as well as a flexible approach when interacting with wider teams.  You’ll work with other feature teams to deliver change ensuring that solutions are built in a consistent way utilising best practices from the wider Engineering community.

About this opportunity

  • Collaborative working with a team of engineers delivery model migration onto the bank’s strategic model execution platform (MERIT)

  • Optimising and improving existing models on platform to improve the speed and quality of insight for execution teams

  • Coaching and mentoring the engineers to uplift overall capability and build skills for the future

  • Building relationships across the bank and being comfortable working in an agile environment to deliver customer driven solutions and high quality software

  • Working with the Product Owner to analyse and evaluate the feasibility of complex proposals to identify solutions that best meet business needs.

  • Keeping abreast of key technical developments and innovations within the industry and encourage other engineers to do the same.

What you’ll need

  • Strong knowledge of credit risk modelling.

  • Strong experience in using Python for data processing across multiple libraries – Pandas, Polars, PySpark.

  • Strong experience in the use of SQL for analytics and coding.

  • Experience in use of MERIT (Model Execution Reporting and Insight Tool) as a model developer, including translation work to migrate models onto platform and production deployments.

  • Good understanding of design and build activities across the lifecycle - unit testing, system testing and integration testing

  • Experience in development & testing production-level Python code for data processing

  • Testing experience (manual or automated) including writing test scripts, performing code reviews and production / review of user documentation

  • Strong knowledge of Github, CI/CD and version control

  • Reviewing design proposals, acceptance criteria and processes, and recommend improvements.

  • Participation in the agile process to produce more rapid delivery, supporting projects and programmes across the organisation

  • Mentoring and development of more junior engineers, providing clear and constructive feedback and building opportunities for learning and growth

  • Experience with Software Engineering collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence etc.

  • Experience of resolution of live production incidents
