JOB TITLE: Public Cloud Lead SRE

SALARY: £104,686 - £123,160 in London, or £90,440 - £106,410 outside of London

LOCATION(S): London, Halifax, Leeds

HOURS: Full time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our locations noted above.

We are a well-established Cloud Platform, who are modernising our next generation technical platform for the bank that continues to be at the core of one of the UK's biggest financial service transformations. Our core technology focus is on Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform.

Your role as a Lead SRE is to be a visionary leader who works collaboratively with the Product Owners and Engineering Leads to ensure that we maintain high levels of reliability across all our products. You will be responsible for leading a team of up to 15 SREs.

You’ll enable a culture of learning and continuous improvement of the implementation of Site Reliability Engineering.  You’ll be aligned to Public Cloud Lab/s and will work with the relevant Product Owners and Engineering Leads, using data, to balance product improvements covering aspects such as reliability, observability and performance, with new feature development

Key Responsibilities

  • You will help improve the SRE framework and principles to strengthen focus, behaviours, and culture

  • You will support the POs and ELs to ensure our products and services are sufficiently resilient and to address any SLA, SLO failures or increased incident levels

  • SREs are contributing to the Product Engineering backlog with a focus on reliability and performance, you will work with Product Owners and Engineering Leads using data and your experience to prioritise the backlog

  • You will train and mentor the SRE's in the latest platform and product features and technology developments and be a go to person for SREs to seek direction and help

What you’ll need

  • SRE experience (leading or engineering) in a Public Cloud environment (preferably Azure or GCP)

  • Good knowledge of the entire software development lifecycle and experience in end-to-end delivery of software products, with emphasis on operational aspects

  • The ability to define, implement and achieve relevant Service Level Objectives for the products in the lab you are aligned to

  • Experience with agile development methods (Scrum, Kanban) and tooling (Jira and Confluence) and experience of leading and working as part of an agile team

  • Software development or Engineering background essential, along with knowledge of modern software development principles and toolsets including DevOps, Continuous Integration, and Continuous Delivery

  • Negotiating skills to influence technical and leadership decisions to achieve the right consumer outcomes and operational needs

  • Be industry aware and understand the importance of new technical approaches to evolve solutions and the experience of the team
