JOB TITLE: Technical Application Specialist

LOCATION(S): Edinburgh

HOURS:  Full time

WORKING PATTERN: Hybrid, 40% (or two days) in one of the above locations

About this opportunity

We're looking to recruit a Technical Application Specialist (TAS) to work within the Service team within the Swift Lab in Edinburgh!

As a TAS you would have a strong engineering background and play a key role in getting things back on track when systems fail. The role involves working in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with technical teams to identify issues, follow recovery procedures, and restore services quickly and efficiently! Clear communication, quick thinking and teamwork are essential as you minimize disruption and help the bank return to normal operations seamlessly.

What you'll need

  • Capable of diagnosing and resolving hardware, software and network issues

  • Knowledge of ITSM Tools – Experience with platforms like Service Now and Jira

  • Incident & Problem management - Familiarity with ITIL practices for managing incidents and recurring issues

  • Documentation & Reporting – The ability to document fixes, procedures and contribute to knowledge bases

  • Problem solving Abilities – Quickly identifying and implementing effective solutions, often under pressure

  • Domain and Product skills -  Working hands on knowledge of UK and International Payment systems

  • Knowledge of SWIFT systems and products such as: GTExchange (GTX), Alliance Messaging Hub (AMH, SWIFT Alliance Access (SAA), SWIFT Alliance Gateway (SAG), Alliance Web Platform (AWP) and / or SWIFT API MicroGateway

  • Knowledge of SWIFT International, Euro and CHAPS Payments experience, along with a detailed understanding of MT & MX messaging particularly on the newer ISO formats

  • Incorporating and performing standard methodology and showcasing critical thinking when crafting and implementing solutions related to SWIFT connectivity and cloud migrations

  • Technology and Engineering skills with a solid technical background, to develop solutions drawing upon their experiences with technologies like MQ, Oracle cloud, Linux Operating system, IBM Connect Direct, API Connectivity with JWT signing

  • Hands on Experience of coding / scripting using Java, SQL, Python, BASH/Shell and DevOps (GitHub/Jenkins/Urban Code Deploy UCD) as we work in an Automation first mentality

  • Hands on experience in cloud migrations to private clouds like Oracle Cloud at Customer, Platform as a service cloud and container-based cloud platform like OpenShift container platform along with relevant experience in Docker / Kubernetes is highly desirable

  • Communication Skills – Clear verbal and written communication to interact with senior management, colleagues and support teams

And any experience of these would be really useful

  • Cloud support knowledge – Understanding of cloud environments like GCP, Azure, AWS as well as Private Cloud solutions.

  • Soft skills & Emotional Intelligence – Staying calm under pressure and effectively handling stressful situations whilst continuing to communicate effectively
