JOB TITLE:  Senior Technical Application Service Specialist

SALARY: £65,385 - £75,000

LOCATION: Edinburgh

HOURS:  Full time

WORKING PATTERN: Hybrid, 40% (or two days) in our Edinburgh office

What you’ll do…

  • Lead complex technical projects within the specialist area

  • Develop and implement best practices and standards

  • Mentor junior specialists and team members

  • Collaborate with other groups to align specialist work with broader objectives

  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and methodologies

  • Conduct root cause analysis for critical issues

  • Lead proof-of-concept initiatives and pilot projects

  • Represent the specialist team in inter-departmental meetings

  • Contribute to the development of technical strategies

  • Oversee the implementation of complex technical solutions

  • Provide expert consultation on critical technical decisions

  • Foster innovation within the team

  • Contribute to thought leadership through articles, presentations, or whitepapers

What you’ll need…

  • Technical troubleshooting – including collaborating with Infrastructure Teams to diagnose and resolve hardware, software and network issues.

  • Knowledge of ITSM Tools – Experience with platforms like Service Now and Jira.

  • Incident & Problem management - Familiarity with ITIL practices for managing incidents and recurring issues.

  • Documentation & Reporting – The ability to document fixes, procedures and contribute to knowledge bases.

  • Programming language: Knowledge of Java, Perl and Unix Shell scripting.

  • OS: Unix - Linux, AIX

  • Database: IBM DB2, Oracle PL/SQL, PostgreSQL

  • IBM Integration Bus (IIB) also known as IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE), Webservices (REST/SOAP), SpringBoot, Kafka, WebSphere MQ, IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS).

  • Working experience on Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Code Management: GitHub, SonarQube, Nexus, Jenkins.

  • Tools: TWS, Tivoli, Splunk, Dynatrace, ServiceNow.

It would be great if you also had…

  • Scripting or Automation – Basic knowledge of Bash or Python to automate routine tasks.

  • Cloud support knowledge – Understanding of cloud environments like GCP, Azure, AWS as well as Private Cloud solutions.

  • Soft skills & Emotional Intelligence – Staying clam under pressure and effectively handling stressful situations whilst continuing to communicate effectively.

  • Observability – Familiarity with monitoring tools to diagnose issues and ensure system performance and reliability.
