JOB TITLE: Senior Technical Application Specialist

LOCATION(S): Edinburgh

HOURS:  Full time

WORKING PATTERN: Hybrid, 40% (or two days) in the above office location

About this opportunity

We're looking to recruit a Senior Technical Application Specialist (TAS) to work within the International & Chaps Payments Service team in Edinburgh. As a Senior TAS you would play a key role in getting things back on track when systems fail. It’s a fast-paced setting where you will work closely with technical teams to identify issues, follow recovery procedures and restore services quickly and efficiently. You will be responsible for leading the service team within the lab. Clear communication, quick thinking and teamwork are essential as you minimize disruption and help the bank return to normal operations smoothly.

What you'll need

  • Experience in leading a service team, mentoring other colleagues and solving difficult technical challenges

  • Technical problem-solving – including collaborating with Infrastructure Teams to diagnose and resolve hardware, software and network issues

  • Knowledge of ITSM Tools – Experience with platforms like Service Now and Jira

  • Incident & Problem management - Familiarity with ITIL practices for managing incidents and recurring issues

  • Documentation & Reporting – The ability to document fixes, procedures and contribute to knowledge bases

  • Problem solving Abilities – Quickly identifying and implementing effective solutions, often under pressure

  • Communication Skills – Clear verbal and written communication to interact with senior management, colleagues and support teams

  • Technical Proficiency - Programming language: Java / J2EE, Unix Shell scripting. OS: Unix / Linux, DataBase : Oracle v19 and above, Code Management : GitHub. Tools : UCD, MQ Message Queue, TWS Batch Scheduling, Middleware: IBM WebSphere, IBM. Monitoring Tools : Splunk and Dynatrace

  • Experience of supporting / maintaining Finastra Global PayPlus (GPP) product or equivalent payment engine

This role requires out of hours on-call support 24x7x365 on a rotational basis.

And any experience of these would be really useful

  • Scripting or Automation – Basic knowledge of Bash or Python to automate routine tasks

  • Cloud support knowledge – Understanding of cloud environments like GCP, Azure, AWS as well as Private Cloud solutions

  • Soft skills & Emotional Intelligence – Staying clam under pressure and effectively handling stressful situations whilst continuing to communicate effectively

  • Observability – Familiarity with monitoring tools like Splunk / Dynatrace to diagnose issues and ensure system performance and reliability

  • Working knowledge of payment schemes such as SWIFT, SEPA, TARGET2 & CHAPS

  • Familiar with ISO 20022 global standards for financial messaging
