WORKING PATTERN: Hybrid, 40% (or two days) in the above office location

About this opportunity

We're looking to recruit a Technical Application Specialist (TAS) to work within the International and Chaps Lab Service team in Edinburgh. As a TAS you would play a key role in getting things back on track when systems fail! It’s a fast-paced setting where you will work closely with technical teams to identify issues, follow recovery procedures and restore services quickly and efficiently.

Clear communication, quick thinking and teamwork are essential as you minimize disruption and help the bank return to normal operations smoothly.

What you'll need

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Infrastructure Management

  • Proficiency in designing, deploying, and managing multi-tenant GKE clusters, including control plane operations and node pool optimizations

  • Hands-on experience with GKE configurations such as autoscaling, multi-zone/regional clusters, and workload optimization for tenant-specific use cases

  • Communication Skills: Clear verbal and written communication to interact with senior management, colleagues and support teams.

  • Incident Management and Troubleshooting: Demonstrated expertise in resolving infrastructure-related incidents, addressing Kubernetes cluster issues, optimizing Istio configurations, conducting impact analysis, and executing root cause resolution

  • Proficient in troubleshooting Istio-related challenges such as traffic routing misconfigurations, mTLS failures, policy enforcement, and control plane connectivity problems

  • Experience in performing comprehensive root cause analysis (RCA) for incidents, identifying contributing factors across infrastructure, Kubernetes, and Istio layers, and implementing permanent solutions to prevent recurrence

  • Skilled in coordinating with cross-functional teams during incidents to ensure rapid resolution while minimizing downtime and tenant impact

  • Expertise in documenting and refining incident management workflows to enhance organizational response times and resiliency

  • An understanding of Terraform state management, workspaces, and CI/CD pipeline integration for automated infrastructure deployment

This role requires out of hours on-call support 24x7x365 on a rotational basis.

And any experience of these would be really useful

  • Expertise in integrating Istio into GKE for traffic management, service discovery, and enhanced security in a multi-tenant context

  • Proven skills in securing GKE clusters using RBAC, network segmentation, and secret management

  • Knowledge of GCP networking, including VPC design, subnets, ingress/egress configurations, and tenant-specific network policies
