Location: Chester
Hours: Full Time
Working Pattern: Hybrid, 40% (or two days per week) in our Chester office.

About this opportunity… 

Exciting opportunity for a Senior Technical Application Specialist to join our Financial Wellbeing Platform. You’ll be an experienced specialist capable of handling complex projects and mentoring junior team members. 

What you’ll do

  • Accountable for the design, build and implementation of Front and Back end changes with a focus on operational stability, robustness, resilience and quality. Ensuring this is in collaboration with Architecture and Engineering principles.

  • Provide Domain Expert input into systems development, integrations and architecture.

  • Collaborate with a broad set of technical specialists and engineers across Financial Wellbeing and other value streams to solve challenges and deliver valuable solutions to our customers.

  • Lead complex technical projects within the specialist area 

  • Develop and implement best practices and standards 

  • Mentor junior specialists and team members 

  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and methodologies 

  • Conduct root cause analysis for critical issues 

  • Lead proof-of-concept initiatives and pilot projects 

  • Contribute to the development of technical strategies 

  • Oversee the implementation of complex technical solutions 

  • Contribute to thought leadership through articles, presentations, or whitepapers 

What you’ll need:

  • Skilled at aligning application configurations with business requirements to optimize supporting customers in financial difficulties.

  • Proficient in using ETL tools such as Pentaho Data Integration for designing, testing and deploying data transformation workflows.

  • Skilled at extracting, transforming and loading data across various source ensuring accuracy and efficiency in data pipelines.

  • Strong knowledge of database optimisation, indexing and performance tuning to support reliable operations.

  • Experience in SQL Server for database administration, SQL statements, complex stored procedures, dynamic SQL queries, functions, scripts and using SQL to query, analyse and manipulate data.

  • Adjusting application settings, creating custom fields and modifying user interfaces to enhance functionality and user experience.

  • Strong adoption of version control and source code management.

And any experience of these would be really useful:

  • Release management knowledge

  • Collections and Recoveries process knowledge

  • Experience in designing and implementing Batch Processing Architectures
