About this opportunity:

Our people have the autonomy to incrementally design, engineer, release, and operate one or more technology-enabled services for our customers. We are organised as multidisciplinary teams: the right people with the right expertise all working together for the same outcome.

We are building contemporary, services-driven architecture which creates opportunities to digitise & deliver excellent customer journeys, business outcomes and meets group strategic goals. We need to simplify and redefine our technology and data landscape. And we need to deliver a set of flexible, future-focused core platform capabilities to the benefit of all our customers. You can help shape this future.

As a Lead Software Engineer , you'll play a pivotal role in the future of our product development, shaping the way we design, build, test and deploy using innovative technology. You'll work collaboratively with other team members, partners and third parties to lead empowered teams who are motivated to solve business problems and realise value to customers.

About us

Like the modern Britain we serve, we’re evolving. Investing billions in our people, data and tech to transform the way we meet the ever-changing needs of our 26 million customers. We’re growing with purpose. Join us on our journey and you will too…

What you’ll need

  • Experience providing hands-on technical leadership across the team, taking ownership of engineering quality
  • Experience managing and mentoring a team of engineers, supporting their growth through coaching, feedback, and performance development
  • Strong technical background with expertise in modern software design and development practices
  • Expert knowledge on data integration engineering

And any experience of these would be really useful

  • Practical experience of designing and building cloud-based platforms at scale (GCP, Azure or AWS)
  • Understanding of domain driven design and building event-driven systems
  • Expertise in c#, Azure Data Factory, Apache Airflow or Apache Beam
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Active leadership contribution to the wider organisation’s engineering community; helping shape culture, strategy, and cross-team initiatives.

And it’s why we especially welcome applications from under-represented groups.

We’re disability confident. So, if you’d like reasonable adjustments to be made to our recruitment processes, just let us know.

We also offer a wide-ranging benefits package, which includes:

  • A generous pension contribution of up to 15%

  • Share schemes including free shares
