JOB TITLE: Senior Data Engineer

LOCATION(S): Halifax, UK

HOURS:  Full time

WORKING PATTERN: Hybrid, 40% (or two days) in an office site

About this opportunity

This is a key role as part of the Risk Foundations, Consumer Data Lab which creates significant value to the Group, unlocking the potential of the Group’s Data Strategy!

As a Data Engineer, you’ll be a critical part of the team delivering business change and transforming the Consumer Risk data! You'll use your technical expertise to support product performance, reliability, and security in line with our strategic vision.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Data Development: Design, build, and maintain data using SAS and other relevant technologies. Transform complex business requirements into scalable solutions that deliver actionable insights.

  • Collaboration: Work in multidisciplinary teams, liaising with Data Operations, Data Scientists, Software Engineers, and Business SMEs to ensure seamless integration of data product features and effective communication of data-driven findings.

  • Integration: Facilitate the smooth integration of new data sources and products into existing data architectures, guaranteeing compatibility, performance, and security.

  • Testing and Quality Assurance: Develop comprehensive testing frameworks for data pipelines and products, ensuring validity, accuracy, and reliability. Perform root cause analysis for data issues, proactively identifying and resolving bottlenecks.

  • Data Management: Implement robust data management practices, including data cleansing, transformation, enrichment, and validation. Ensure adherence to data governance and security policies.

  • SAS Programming: Develop, maintain, and optimise SAS scripts, macros, and stored processes to support data engineering functions across the business.

  • Documentation: Produce and maintain high-quality technical and process documentation, supporting knowledge transfer and audit requirements.

What you’ll need

  • Extensive data engineering experience and implementing data management systems.

  • Expertise in SAS development

  • Strong data literacy, with hands-on analytics and development skills.

  • Proficient in BigQuery, and cloud-native architectures.

  • Experience with Tableau, Power BI, or Looker for data visualization.

  • Solid knowledge of data governance, architecture, and lifecycle management.

  • Familiarity with automation tools and observability frameworks.

  • Proven leadership, team coaching abilities, and stakeholder influence skills to drive strategic outcomes.
