JOB TITLE: Sustainability Risk Manager (Nature & ESG) -  12 month FTC

SALARY: £59,850 - £66,500

LOCATION: Bristol or Birmingham

HOURS:  Full time 

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our Bristol or Birmingham office location

We're a high profile and impactful team. The Supply Chain & Technology Sustainability Team sits within Group Sourcing & Supplier Management, and we're responsible for ensuring we improve the sustainability impacts of our supply chain. This includes reducing the carbon emissions that our suppliers generate and ensuring our suppliers meet other broader Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) requirements around issues such as ethics, modern slavery, human rights and nature.  

This role is essential in supporting how we improve the assessment and compliance of our suppliers (new and existing) against evolving ESG requirements. We align ourselves to the Group’s Sustainability strategy and ambitions and in particular the Group’s public ambition to reduce supply chain emissions by 50% by 2030, on the path to net zero by 2050. Our broader team have accountability for Sustainability for the Group Chief Operating Office, providing the opportunity to gain exposure and learning around activity to improve the Sustainability of our technology and data.

In this role you’ll be looking after our ESG risk lifecycle including establishing and documenting risk appetite and measurement across a breadth of topics including management of relevant tooling and data products that support the risk assessment process. This will include activity relating to both Climate and Nature, as well as broader Social and Governance topics including Modern Slavery and Human Rights. A key part of this role will also be owning the Supply Chain nature and circular economy strategy and reporting, including facilitating LEAP assessments and reporting against our zero-waste pledge.

Key responsibilities:

  • Bringing together existing risk frameworks across a breadth of topics into one cohesive ESG risk lifecycle and documenting key methodologies and criteria for managing risk

  • Identifying any data or tooling gaps essential to optimize the way ESG risk is assessed or managed and partnering with internal and external team members to implement improvements

  • Building relationships with key stakeholders responsible for setting and updating risk appetite across a range of topics and establishing process for maintaining approach

  • Designing streamlined approach to regularly assess suppliers for ESG risk, innovating to simplify and automate risk assessments

  • Completing Nature LEAP assessment in partnership with central Nature team

  • Ownership of strategy for Nature including evolving potential commitments and supplier approach

  • Ownership of reporting against the technology element of Zero Waste pledge in a way that meets regulatory expectations

What you’ll need:

  • Understanding of external landscape including key ESG regulation and frameworks

  • Experience with completing materiality assessments, or other ESG risk assessments and ongoing management of ESG risk

  • Understanding of Nature / Biodiversity and the role Nature plays in Climate Transition planning

  • Collaboration: management of multiple relationships across the business to deliver on a variety of projects simultaneously.

  • Communication: excellent verbal and written skills with the ability to adapt key messaging to different audiences.

  • Project Delivery: evidence of delivery in a fast-paced environment across multiple projects at the same time.

  • Data Analysis: able to interpret data and use this to prioritise and drive actions that support the goals of reducing carbon emissions.

It would be great if you also had:

Experience working within a team primarily focused on sourcing or supply chain management.
