JOB TITLE: Senior DevOps Engineer
SALARY: £70,929 - £78,810 per annum
LOCATION: Bristol 
HOURS: Full-time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites

We’re hiring a DevOps Engineer in Bristol to lead, direct and shape approaches to solving technical challenges and translating business requirements into technical solutions.

Personalised Experiences and Communications (PEC) is a business platform that sits within Consumer Relationships and plays a critical role in supporting the achievement of the Group strategic view by working closely & collaboratively across the Platform leadership team to grow by protecting and deepening customer relationships. PEC enables & delivers personalised customer communications & experiences across all channels, media and business areas supporting the Customer Relationship Growth strategy to deepen relationships with our customers across both the retail & commercial bank. This includes the data, analytics, and technology to unlock the value of differentiating our branded channel experiences, proposition, price and communication; as well as paper-free sustainable ambitions.


This exciting opportunity is within the Personalised Experiences and Communications (PEC) platform for a DevOps Engineer. As the DevOps Engineer you'll lead, direct and shape approaches to solving technical challenges and translating business requirements into technical solutions. You will work in a highly collaborative way to drive efforts to create, build, support and improve our software working closely with the product and engineering teams with lots of exciting new challenges. You'll be a core contributor to ensure good quality and engineering practices are followed in accordance with engineering transformation strategy.

We are looking for a dynamic and adaptable individual, able to use and learn new skills in varying circumstances. You'll be curious about technology and understanding how things work and influence positively - demonstrating the right values and behaviours and encouraging this in team members.

Day to day, you will 
•    Responsible for supporting build and deployment processes for applications on both Private and Public cloud – API based, event driven, batch processing.
•    Focus on the DevOps elements of the software engineering role, helping us to deploy software regularly and smoothly while continuously improving and developing our processes.
•    Support the Group to learn and implement the best use of DevOps tools, like Jenkins, GitHub, Harness, Docker, Istio and how to continuously maintain & improve our platforms.
•    Be involved in delivering & maintaining various pipeline standards for teams covering build, test, security, performance, release processes etc..
•    Build and deploy automation Observability solutions (Logging, Monitoring, Metrics, Alerting)
•    Support and work alongside cross functional different agile teams on latest technologies
•    Iterate the best practices to increase the quality of deployments
•    Sustain and improve the process of knowledge sharing throughout the engineering teams

What you’ll need:
We are looking for someone who comes from a software engineering or database engineering background that has a solid understanding of DevOps practices, processes and supporting tools.

•    Strong Software Engineering and pipeline background, ideally from a back-end development background
•    Proven experience and understanding of modern engineering practices
•    DevOps Tools (CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Sonar, Nexus, GIT, Docker Containers)
•    Test Automation Tools Junit, Cucumber, Selenium, Postman
•    Passion for collaborating with other engineers and building a strong team culture
•    Proven experience innovating in automation to improve resilience, release frequency and promoting a DevOps culture in delivery teams
•    Exposure to cloud technology – ideally GCP


And any experience of these would be really useful: 
•     Network protocols & security (incl. PKI)
•    Application Servers: WAS & Liberty & Linux
•    Kubernetes & Istio
•    Data resources in public cloud – RDBMS, Kafka, Pub/Sub, Buckets, File Storage, NoSQL

This is a key role in the team so you will have the opportunity work with all our feature teams to establish the DevOps patterns and principles of the team in line with the Group’s methodologies.
