Schroders Personal Wealth announces leadership team

Schroders plc and Lloyds Banking Group plc today confirm the executive team at Schroders Personal Wealth – a joint venture launching later this year to help more people in the UK with their investments and financial planning.

 

The executive leadership team will be as follows (subject to regulatory approval):

  • Nick Allen, Chief Operating Officer
  • Marcus Brookes, Chief Investment Officer
  • James Cardew, Chief Marketing Officer
  • Marietta Connery, Head of Human Resources

  • Barrie Jackson, Chief Risk Officer
  • David Lawrence, Chief Commercial Officer
  • Colin Newham, Chief Internal Auditor
  • Joel Ripley, Chief Financial Officer

 


The team will drive the design of Schroders Personal Wealth, which will offer a personalised financial planning service backed by Lloyds Banking Group’s experienced adviser teams and understanding of customer financial life-cycles, Schroders’ investment expertise and Benchmark Capital’s award-winning technology. The new business will launch in June 2019 (subject to regulatory approval).

Antonio Lorenzo, Chairman, Schroders Personal Wealth 

Antonio Lorenzo joined Lloyds Banking Group in March 2011 as Group Director, Wealth, International and Group Corporate Development. Antonio played a key role in the first Group Strategic Review, helping reshape the Group’s international presence and strengthen its balance sheet through significant non-core asset reduction and deposit growth.

From 2013, he assumed the role of Group Director, Consumer Finance and Group Corporate Development, leading the division’s growth strategy while completing the sale of TSB. In 2016, he was appointed Chief Executive of Scottish Widows & Group Director, Insurance, Wealth and Halifax Sharedealing Limited.

Antonio reports to António Horta-Osório and is a member of the Group Executive Committee as well as a Board member of the Association of British Insurers. Antonio joined the Group from Santander, where he held number of different leadership roles since 1998.

 

James Rainbow, Chief Executive Officer, Schroders Personal Wealth  

 

In 2019, James will take up a new role as Chief Executive Officer of Schroders Personal Wealth.

 

Prior to this, James was Co-Head of UK Intermediary Business at Schroders, Chief Executive of Schroder Unit Trusts and a non-executive Director of Benchmark Capital. 

 

James joined Schroders in 2007 and was initially Head of UK Marketing, covering both Institutional and Intermediary clients and then Head of UK Strategic Accounts, responsible for relationships with Schroders largest distribution partners in the UK. 

 

James joined the investment industry in 1996 and worked at John Govett & Co until 2001 and Barings until 2007. 

 

Nick Allen, Chief Operating Officer, Schroders Personal Wealth

Nick is currently Chief Operating Officer within Lloyds Banking Group’s Transformation division. His career with Lloyds Banking Group spans almost three decades, ranging from management roles within the branch network, business banking, marketing, product management and integration, although he has spent the last 10 years focused on operations.

In his new role effective immediately, Nick will work closely with the leadership team on driving forward the design of Schroders Personal Wealth.

Marcus Brookes, Chief Investment Officer, Schroders Personal Wealth

 

Marcus Brookes has been Head of Multi-Manager at Schroders since 2013 with responsibility for the Schroders multi-manager team and investment process.

 

He has over 25 years’ experience within investment management, specialising in manager selection and asset allocation.

 

Marcus joined Schroders when Schroders acquired Cazenove Capital in 2013. Prior to this, he held senior investment and fund manager roles at Gartmore, Rothschild Asset Management and Friends Provident Asset Management.

 

James Cardew, Chief Marketing Officer, Schroders Personal Wealth

 

James Cardew has been Global Head of Marketing at Schroders since 2007, with responsibility for marketing, brand, PR and content. He has worked in asset management for 23 years. 

 

At Schroders, he has focused on using digital engagement to build and strengthen relationships with all client segments, spanning the UK, Europe, Asia and the Americas. More recently, he led a full rebrand for Schroders, the first in nearly six decades, which spanned visual identity, purpose and tone of voice.

 

James joined Schroders in 2003 and is based in London. He was Head of UK Marketing at Schroders from 2003 to 2006 and Head of European Marketing from 2006 to 2007.

 

James holds a BA in Economics from Leicester University and has previously held roles at Merrill Lynch and Mercury Asset Management.

 

Marietta Connery, Head of HR, Schroders Personal Wealth  

 

Marietta Connery has been Head of Human Resources (HR) Solutions at Schroders since 2007, with responsibility for HR Operations and Business Partners. She has over two decades of experience across all aspects of HR, ranging from human capital management to strategic planning and change management.

 

At Schroders, Marietta has focused on strengthening the link between people and strategy, as well as managing, motivating and retaining talent. Marietta has also led the people aspects of a number of key strategic acquisitions and successful integrations, most notably the acquisition of Cazenove Capital in 2013.  

 

Marietta has previously held HR roles at Bass and Britvic PLC.

 

Sarah Deaves, Managing Director, Client Relationships & Wealth Advice, Schroders Personal Wealth 

Sarah is currently UK Wealth Director at Lloyds Banking Group. She will continue in her current role while providing her expertise to support the creation of Schroders Personal Wealth until it becomes operational, and her new role will therefore become effective.

Sarah joined Lloyds Banking Group in June 2013 from Royal Bank of Scotland, where she was Managing Director, Private Banking and Advice. She previously spent eight years as the first female Chief Executive of Coutts & Co.

Sarah has more than 30 years of experience in the banking industry, the last 20 years in Wealth Management – including investment and IFA businesses – spanning a broad range of activities including marketing, product innovation, telephone banking, cards, and lending.

Barrie Jackson, Chief Risk Officer, Schroders Personal Wealth 

Barrie is currently Audit Director, Financial, Operational Risk and Governance at Lloyds Banking Group.

He will continue in his current role for a short period before joining the rest of the leadership team to drive the design of Schroders Personal Wealth’s infrastructure and operations, including establishing and embedding an effective risk management framework.

With more than 25 years of risk management and audit experience within financial services across retail, commercial and investment banking and insurance, Barrie’s previous roles have included Chief Credit Officer at a UK investment bank, Financial Risk Director at Aviva and Credit Risk Officer at SMBC Nikko Capital Markets, as well as spells in consulting.

David Lawrence, Chief Commercial Officer, Schroders Personal Wealth   

David has most recently been the Strategy, Transition and Planning Director for Lloyds Banking Group’s Insurance and Wealth Transformation. Prior to this, he spent four years as the Commercial Director within Lloyds Wealth and Private Banking businesses, where he had responsibility for strategy, transformation and the development of mass affluent propositions.

David’s career with Lloyds has included senior leadership roles in both Retail and Commercial Banking Distribution as well as with central functions including marketing, product development and transformation.

His role in Schroders Personal Wealth will be to develop the business and introduce a leading client proposition.

Colin Newham, Chief Internal Auditor, Schroders Personal Wealth 

Colin joined Lloyds Banking Group as Quality Assurance and Methodology Audit Director in November 2016 and was also appointed Interim Audit Director for Retail & Community Banking for 7 months from November 2017. In his new role effective immediately, he will be working closely with the leadership team on driving forward the design of Schroders Personal Wealth.

He has specialised in auditing financial services firms for more than 25 years, joining Lloyds Banking Group from Citibank, where he was Chief Auditor for Citi Private Bank, Fiduciary and ICG Operations. He led global audit teams
including in Brazil, Hong Kong, Mexico, Singapore, Switzerland, the UK and US in this role.

Previous leadership posts include 12 years at UBS Internal Audit covering Investment Bank, Asset Management and Wealth Management activities.

Joel Ripley, Chief Financial Officer, Schroders Personal Wealth 

Joel is currently Finance Director, Wealth and Stockbroking at Lloyds Banking Group. He will move to his new role on the leadership team of Schroders Personal Wealth in June 2019, where he will help create the new business’ finance infrastructure and risk management framework alongside the leadership team.

Joel joined the bank in 2003 from JP Morgan, and previously held roles at Deloitte. Joel is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
